How to make a furniture warranty claim actually work
A five-year warranty is only as good as the paperwork behind it. Most failed claims fail on documentation, not on cover.
Warranty terms are quoted in years because years sound reassuring. What determines whether a claim is honoured in year four is narrower: who the manufacturer thinks bought the product, what the invoice says, and whether the failure falls inside the written cover.
Why claims fail
- The invoice is from an intermediary who is no longer trading, or no longer an authorised dealer.
- The product was a substitution made post-award, and the warranty on record belongs to a different model.
- The failure is classed as wear, castors, gas lifts, fabric and edge banding are commonly excluded or covered on shorter terms.
- No installation record exists, so the manufacturer treats the failure as an installation fault.
What to hold at handover
Ask for a handover file, not a folder of assurances: brand invoices in your name or your contractor's with the products itemised, model codes and finish references per line, the written warranty document per brand with inclusions and exclusions, installation and commissioning sign-off, and the service contact with an escalation path.
What our cover means
A five-year furniture warranty and a two-year AMC come standard, with the covered items and terms set out in the proposal rather than described in a sentence. Because purchase is brand-direct, the claim path runs to the manufacturer with our purchase order attached, and we run the claim rather than handing you a phone number.
One thing to do in month one
Log every defect found in the first thirty days, even the small ones. Snagging-period claims are the easiest to settle and the cheapest to fix, and a documented early list makes a later claim considerably harder to dismiss.
